Sum of interior angles of a polygon formula

Know the formula from which we can find the sum of interior angles of a polygon. I think we all of us know the sum of interior angles of polygons like triangle and quadrilateral. What about remaining different types of polygons, how to know or how to find the sum of interior angles. If you learn the formula, with the help of formula we can find sum of interior angles of any given polygon. The polygon may be regular polygon or irregular polygon the formula is same. Now we will see the simple formula to be used to find sum of interior angles. If you know this formula and in any problem if they give sum of interior angles then we can say what type of polygon is it by finding “n” value.

Below given is the Formula for sum of interior angles of a polygon:

If “n” represents the number of sides, then sum of interior angles of a polygon = (n – 2) × 180°

Example:

The Sum of interior angles of a 3 sided polygon i.e. triangle is (n – 2) 180°  = (3-2) 180°  = 180°

For four sided polygon the sum of interior angles is (4-2) 180°  = 2 × 180°  = 360°

Similarly the sum of interior angles of 5 sided polygons is (5-2) 180°  = 3 × 180°  = 540°
