# Sector of a circle explained

Learn the meaning and definition of sector of a circle. In circle, we have so many definitions to learn in that one of them is sector of a circle.

How to explain sector of a circle? We can explain it clearly by definition. The definition is given as “the region between the arc and two radius of a circle is called the sector of a circle”.

## Classification of sector of a circle:

Sector of a circle is mainly classified into two types. It is classified based on the arcs.

Minor sector

Major sector

Minor sector:

Consider a circle with centre as O and radius as r. let us consider a point P on the circumference of the circle as shown in the diagram.

The sector which contains minor arc (smaller) is called as minor sector. In the above diagram OAPB is minor sector.

Major sector:

Here also let us consider a circle with centre as O and radius as r. Consider a point C on the circumference of the circle.

The sector which contains major arc (bigger) is called as major sector . In our diagram which is given above, OACB is called major sector.

I hope you understood the concept. By seeing the diagrams also we can understand the concept very easily. If you have any doubts on this concept feel free to ask through comments.
