We know that rectangle has two dimensions i.e. length and breadth. Suppose rectangle has height also then it becomes a cuboid. So this one in a simple sentence we say cuboid is 3D shape of rectangle.

What is the meaning of lateral surface area of cuboid?

If we observe the cuboid it is very clear that it has 6 faces. Except the area of the top and bottom face of cuboid, remaining 4 faces area is called lateral surface area of cuboid. In short form we write lateral surface area as L.S.A.

The formula for lateral surface area of cuboid as follows:

We have a formula for calculating lateral surface area. Lateral surface area of cuboid formula is given by 2 × h × (l + b) units, h means height, l means length and b means breadth.

Examples:

The dimensions of cuboid are 5 × 3 × 7, then what is its L.S.A?

Solution:

Length is taken as 5, breadth is taken as 3 and height is taken as 7.

We know that L.S.A of cuboid is 2 × h × (l + b) = 2 × 7 × (5 + 3) = 2 × 7 × 8 = 112 units.
