Definition of obtuse angle explained with examples

Learn and know what is the definition of obtuse angle in geometry. There are so many types of angles in math, in that obtuse angle is one of them.

Definition of obtuse angle explained

Before discussing what is the meaning of obtuse angle, we should know what is the meaning of an angle. Then if we discuss obtuse angle you can understand it easily. And again, if we want to discuss an angle? You should know what is the ray? meaning. Because from ray we get the definition of angle and from angle we will discuss what is obtuse angle? So each definition is having some link to the previous definition. In that one definition if you can’t understand then totally nothing you can understand. First, we will discuss what is a ray? If a line segment moves endlessly in any one direction then it is called as a ray. Now we will discuss angle.

What is an angle in math?

The simple definition of angle is given as “The union of two rays is called as angle” or “two rays with same initial point is called as an angle”.

Obtuse angle definition as follows:

We know what is the meaning of angle? So now we will know what are obtuse angles. The definition of obtuse angles is “The angles between 90 degrees to 180 degrees are called as obtuse angles”. Here Between means we should not consider 90 and 180 degrees. Except these two angles, any angle which is between them is called as obtuse.

Examples

The angles, 112 degrees, 175 degrees, 151 degrees, 99 degrees are called obtuse angles.

183 degrees, 197 degrees are not obtuse angles because according to obtuse angle definition the angle should be between 90 to 180 degrees. But here both are greater than 180 degrees, so they are not obtuse.

Sum of any two obtuse angles are?

Did you check any time that what will be the sum of any two obtuse angles? The sum of any two obtuse angles will be reflex angles.

Hope definition of obtuse angle and the remaining things regarding to that are clear.
