Learn and know what is **area of square formula**; this is the one of the easiest formula in geometry. In geometry we will learn about different shapes in that square is also one of them.

Hoping that you know what is a square and basic square properties, now we will try learn the formula by which we can able to find the **area of square**. We have two **formulas for calculating the value of area of square**. In terms of side one formula and in terms of diagonal second formula. So you have to decide which formula should be used, that depends upon the data that is given in the problem. But, while learning, learn both the formulas because we don’t know how they are going to ask the question.

**The formula for finding area of square as follows:**

Let JKLM be a square as shown in the above fig.

** Formula for finding area of square** JKLM is given by “

**SIDE X SIDE**” (in terms of side).

For example,

Let us think that one of the sides of a square JKLM is 7 cm. We know that according to properties of square, all sides are equal. So the sides JK, KL, LM and MJ are equal to 7 cm. Therefore, the * area of square is “SIDE X SIDE*” = 7 x 7 = 49 cm

^{2}.

*Area of square* is 121 cm^{2}. Then what is the value of side of a square? As we know that 11^{2} is 121, so the side of square will be 11 cm.

NOTE:

What you observed from the above two examples? If they give side, they will ask us to find area. If they give area, they will ask us to find side. In any manner they can ask, we should be ready to solve the problem.

** Area of square formula** in terms of diagonal is (diagonal)

^{2}/2.

For example,

If the diagonal of a square is 8 mm, then area of square is 8^{2}/2 = 64/2 =32 mm^{2}.

Suppose If the diagonal of a square is 4 cm, then area of the square is 4^{2}/2 =16/2 =8 cm^{2}.

NOTE:

In this case also same like above, if they give diagonal, they will ask us to find area. If they give area, they will ask us to find diagonal. Be ready for solving all the types of problem. So learn both the **formulas. **
