# Area of parallelogram formula explained

What is parallelogram? And how we can define it. A quadrilateral is a parallelogram if two pairs of opposite sides are parallel and also equal.

The below-given quadrilateral is called as parallelogram because the two pairs of opposite sides are equal and also parallel.

## Formula for finding the area of parallelogram:

It is clear that PQ || SR and PS || QR and PQ be base of the parallelogram then

Area of parallelogram PQRS   = product of base and height

= PQ x AB

Therefore, area of parallelogram =   b x h

### Example problems on area of parallelogram:

1. Find the area of parallelogram if the base is 6 cm and height is 9 cm.

Solution:

Given

Base of parallelogram = 6 cm

Height of parallelogram = 9 cm

We know that,

Area of parallelogram = base x height

= 6 x 9

= 54 square cm.

2. Find the base of parallelogram if height equals to 15 cm and the area is 195 square cm.

Solution:

Given

Height of parallelogram = 15 cm

Area = 195 square cm

We know that

Area of parallelogram = base x height

195                  =  b x 15

195/15          = b

13                  = b

Therefore, base = 13 cm.

3. Find the height of parallelogram if the area is 300 square cm and the base is 12 cm.

Solution:

Given

Base  of parallelogram = 12 cm

Area of parallelogram = 300 square cm

We know that,

Area of a parallelogram = base x height

300                 = 12 x h

300/12         = h

25                 = h

Therefore, height = 25 cm.
