What is a trigonometry?

Trigonometry is a branch of mathematics, where we are going to study about the relationship between sides and angles of right angled triangle.

 Δ ABC be a right angled triangle. The side AB is opposite side to θ. The side BC is adjacent side to θAC is the hypotenuse in triangle ABC.

Example on trigonometry ratios:

In a Δ ABC, AB = 3 cm and BC = 4 cm then find the values of all six trigonometric ratios.

Solution:

Given

 In a  Δ ABC, trigonometry ratios

AB = 3 cm and BC = 4 cm,

Then AC = 5 cm. (According to Pythagoras theorem).

sinθ =  opposite side to θ hypotenuse   =    35

 

cosθ = adjacent side to θ hypotenuse   =   45

 

tanθ = opposite side to θ  adjacent side to θ   =  34

 

cosecθ = hypotenuse opposite side to θ   =   53

 

secθ= hypotenuse adjacent side to θ  =   54

 

cotθ = adjacent side to θ opposite side to θ   =   43
